I am having a moment of restructuring everything! I have abandoned my .co.uk website (brave I know 🙄) and have reverted back to WordPress which is altogether easier to keep up with and dip into.
I have no idea how this will pan out but it felt good to shrug off one element that I could never quite get to grips with. It seemed like a difficult platform and try as I did I could never get the SSL certificate to confirm so in the end I thought my peace of mind was more important than a bloody website!
So here I am using WordPress again and it feels like familiar territory although a lot has changed.
I felt a little bit lost not having anywhere to pen my thoughts and goings on. I have no idea how often I will write a post nor what topic I will be writing about but here I am.
It is a long time since my last post I am aware of that and much has happened in those couple of years. The flower side of things has taken off which is partly why I stopped posting. The sheer amount of work for one person (albeit I do have John who does roll his eyes when I say can you make me this) has taken up a lot of time. I have had great fun though, in the beginning I said ‘I am not doing weddings’ and now I have around eight under my belt. The last one was probably a bit of a nail in the coffin to be honest, the hottest, driest summer on record and flowers to grow for the biggest wedding order do date made for an extremely stressful summer.
That won’t happen again and not because I now have the experience but because I will say no. I am learning to say no I can’t do that, it feels counterproductive for a business and I am sure there are many who would relish the challenge but mine is a lifestyle business and it became detrimental to my life in so many ways. It overloaded my stress levels right from the start and by the end I was truly exhausted mentally and physically.
That is all behind me now and I am busy restructuring and preparing for next years weather. I fear worse is to come but I hope I am wrong. The lack of rain this year has been a big factor and we have invested in some very large rain capture tanks. Given that we made the decision a couple of months ago and up to yesterday still have not had any significant rain I think we made the right call at the right time. They say that we would need 7 months of continuous rain to get us back to a normal level! Wow!
When I think back to why I started this blog it was when we moved here and we moved here because I had a feeling that climate change was going to have a big impact on everything. When I started up the flowers the veg side of things took a bit of a back seat but at the beginning of this growing season I started in earnest again and I am glad did, I feel we will need it more than ever going forward and I hate to think what the next decade will look like in terms of food shortages.
Anyway, I am still here and I am still growing, processing and storing the produce I grow. We still have a few hens and a couple of geese but that’s all now. The three cats, one dog and two horses are all pets, granted the cats are useful and the dog is a doorbell so they have their uses 😂
